Participation in the Haiku Presentation and Contest
4th ‘Enter into Art’ International Art Installations 2017-18
Following our positive experiences on our joint projects involving artists from all over the world, we would now like to offer haiku poets around the globe the chance to present their poems at our international art events with small-format pictures. The haiku can be delivered in your mother tongue or German or English language.
Publication of your haiku in the art and gift book ‘KUNSTRETREAT 2018’ including artworks from around the world.
In addition the art book will be published as an online catalog.
Your haiku will be integrated into the artistic design of the exhibition in Cologne. Small-scale artworks by international artists with different artistic techniques and styles are arranged in ‘color zones’ and combined with smaller sculptures as well as haiku poetry and relaxing music.

The haiku can be delivered in your mother tongue or German or English language and must be ready for publication! If a translation is necessary, you can find professional translators, for example, at the following associations (it is best to enter the search terms ‘belletristik’, ‘native language’, ‘German’, ‘haiku’ or ‘lyric’:
DVDÜ – Deutscher Verband der freien Übersetzer und Dolmetscher / German Association of Free Translators and Interpreters
UNIVERSITAS – Der österreichische Berufsverband für Dolmetschen und Übersetzen / The Austrian Professional Association for Interpreting and Translating
DÜV – Agentur der Dolmetscher- und Übersetzervereinigung in Zürich/ Agency of Interpreting and Translation Services in Zurich (Switzerland)
Haiku, Art and Music
Haiku poets are often also gifted painters. Like small-format pictures, the haiku is always amazing for its great expressiveness in the smallest of spaces. Both music and art, as well as lyrics and sound, are gateways to the self and bridges to the cosmos. The merging of the self (ego) with the creative and artistic spirit of the whole world also forms the basis of haiku poetry.
If there is no translation for your haiku, we will publish it in your native language because reading foreign-language lyrics or different fonts is as exhilarating as reading in the mother tongue. It is like music or color-sounds and it increases the intercultural impact of our projects. The latter is also strengthened by the artistic embedding of haiku in the exhibition design as well as through the interaction with relaxing music and multimedia effects.
But should your haiku be difficult to understand (translate by Google), we need at least a short explanation in either English or German!
Book publications and participation in worldwide events contribute to a successful reputation. In addition, the haiku poems are presented in the context of our international art exhibitions with small-format pictures from all over the world, which in their conception resemble a haiga installation in a grand style. They promote the mutual fertilization of art and poetry in a unique way.
In this international and meditative environment, you will surely feel at ease as a haiku poet, while also benefiting from our popular blogs about the artistic and literary world. We publish them in the Bernsteinrose blog and link them with participant lists. In the same way, messages of popular acclaim are linked to the articles on the exhibitions and the book.
The joint projects with international artists were preceded by a long-standing collaboration with renowned publishing houses. In the art books ‘Kunstretreat 2016’ and ‘Kunstretreat 2017’, Gabriele Walter published 64 haiku poems in total. In addition, together with the Japanese artist Chiemi Itoi, she published the bilingual gift book ‘Katzenliebe – Cat Love’ (a collection of art pictures and haiku poems). Since 2010, she has regularly published haiku poetry as a blog writer.
